We turned in almost 2,000 signatures for each petition, demanding real accountability for MaineCare. Now we need Mainers to say it in their own words, in their local paper.
You do not need to be a writer. You just need to be a Mainer who is tired of watching tax dollars disappear with no one checking the math. Lead Maine will help you the whole way through.
How it works
- Pick your angle. Are you a taxpayer? A parent? A caregiver or healthcare worker? Write from your personal perspective. That is what makes a letter stand out.
- Keep it short. Most news outlets cap letters at 200 to 300 words. One point, made clearly, beats five points made vaguely.
- Say what you know. Right now a MaineCare inspector can count a phone call as an on-site visit. AND, when a provider is caught overbilling, the state keeps paying them while it sorts things out. Pick one of these and explain why fixing it matters to you… or both. Just keep it on message and concise.
- Submit it to us first. Send your draft to Lead Maine before it goes to the paper. We will edit it with you, tighten the language, and make sure it is ready to run. This is not about changing your voice. It is about making sure we stay on message (demanding accountability!) and that your letter gets published.
- We will help you send it. Once it is edited, we will let you know when and where to send it to make sure that your letter gets published.
