Lead Maine Letter to the Editor SMS Program
1 – Program Description
The Lead Maine Letter to the Editor SMS Program provides text message assistance to individuals who submit a Letter to the Editor through the Lead Maine website and separately choose to receive SMS updates.
Messages may include:
- Confirmation that Lead Maine received your LTE submission;
- Reminders related to your submission;
- Editing or status updates;
- Notice that an edited draft or submission instructions are available; and
- Responses to questions or requests for support.
This SMS Program is limited to service messages concerning your Letter to the Editor submission. It does not include fundraising, promotional messages, electoral messages, unrelated advocacy messages, or general Lead Maine broadcast updates.
2 – Consent
You enroll by providing a mobile telephone number and affirmatively checking the separate SMS consent box on the Lead Maine Letter to the Editor submission form.
The SMS consent box is optional. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of submitting a Letter to the Editor, receiving non-SMS assistance, making a donation, or otherwise using the Lead Maine website.
By opting in, you authorize Lead Maine to send recurring automated text messages concerning your LTE submission to the mobile number you provided.
3 – Message Frequency
Message frequency varies, up to 4 messages per LTE submission.
4 – Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile telephone plan. Lead Maine does not charge a separate fee for participating in the SMS Program.
5 – Opting Out
You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to a Lead Maine text message.
After you reply STOP, you will receive a confirmation that you have been unsubscribed. No additional LTE Program messages will be sent unless you later provide new consent or reply START where supported.

7 – Privacy
Information collected through the SMS Program is handled according to the Lead Maine Privacy Policy:
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional use.
8 – Delivery
Delivery of text messages is subject to the effective operation of your wireless carrier and mobile device. Carriers are not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages.
9 – Program Changes
Lead Maine may modify or discontinue the SMS Program. Material changes to these Terms will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
